Defending Jacob is very much in the suspense genre. The main character, year-old Jacob Barber, is a smart young kid who was frequently bullied by Ben Rifkin. Following Ben's murder, Jacob is suddenly charged with first degree murder of his fellow classmate. Based on the book by William Landay of the same title, DEFENDING JACOB tells the story of a state prosecutor who unexpectedly finds himself doing everything he can to defend his family. District Attorney Andy Barber (Chris Evans) lives an idyllic life in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife Laurie, (Michelle Dockery) and Jacob (Jaeden.
Defending Jacob is based on a book written by William Landay, and Landay himself suggests that the story is as much a family drama as it is a crime novel. That comes across in this Apple TV+ take on the book. Andy (played by Captain America’s Chris Evans) and Laurie (Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery) struggle to hold the family together. Defending Jacob by William Landay My rating: 4 of 5 stars This is the first William Landay book I have read. He is a great story teller. I would have enjoyed the book much better had he not used such bad language (cursing). The story is about a Father and son. The father (Andy) is an assistant DA.
Defending Jacob: Story: It is a book adaptation and whensoever a book is turned into a series or movie the comparison begins. However, while watching the miniseries it stands completely different 64%(45). I found Defending Jacob to be an original, gripping, complex, and an interesting crime thriller as well as emotional and a thought provoking family drama. What made this an interesting read for me was the combination of the legal side of the crime, the courtroom drama and the emotional family drama of a family in crisis after their son Jacob is accused of a violent crime.

Glad I found this conversation. I just finished the book a week ago (read it for a book club). I do think Jacob was guilty and just had zero remorse for anything. I think he was a seriously screwed up kid. I felt bad for the mom, and Andy, besides being a stick in the mud, had his head buried in the sand at anything to do with his family.
